UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHERS

Mary Jane BAUER
Senior Undergraduate
2025-2026
Mary Jane is a fourth-year undergraduate student at Northern Michigan University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Biology. She has a background in rope access and is skilled in ecological rope access data collection. Her research interests include wildlife species interactions, and conservation biology - specifically the effects of climate change and habitat loss on wildlife behavior and survival. Currently she is using camera trap data to determine the nature and the seasonal occurrence of wildlife around the facility shed housing a colony of Thirteen-Lined Ground Squirrels (Ictidomys tridecemlineatus). She hopes to further examine whether or how wildlife presence patterns around the Squirrel Colony Facility Shed (SCFS) affect the phenological habits of the squirrels inside.
